EACC summons Garissa Governor Nathif Jama over alleged embezzlement of funds, irregular hiring
Governor Nathif has been directed to appear before EACC officials at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi on August 25, 2025, at 10 am for an interview and to record a statement.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam over allegations of misuse of public funds and irregular hiring within the county administration.
In a letter dated August 19, 2025 and addressed to the governor, the commission said it is investigating claims of embezzlement of county resources and questionable recruitment of staff between October 2022 and June 2024.

Governor Nathif has been directed to appear before EACC officials at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi on August 25, 2025, at 10 am for an interview and to record a statement.
The session will be conducted by the Assistant Director of Macro Investigations, S. Cherpka.
“The Commission is investigating allegations of embezzlement of public funds and irregular recruitment of employees by Garissa County Government from October 2022 to June 2024,” the letter reads in part.
The letter was signed by Paschal K. Mweu, the Director of Investigations, on behalf of the EACC Secretary and Chief Executive Officer.
This comes a week after President William Ruto openly accused Members of Parliament of fuelling corruption by demanding bribes from Cabinet Secretaries and governors, remarks that have now sharpened tensions between the Executive and the Legislature.
Speaking during the Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County, Ruto castigated MPs for allegedly converting parliamentary committees into money-minting avenues instead of fulfilling their oversight duties, branding the House a hub of graft.
“There is something happening in parliament that must be called out. There is money being demanded from executives, from governors, from people in Executive,” he said.
The President, who deviated from his prepared speech, singled out unnamed parliamentary committees that he claimed had turned into extortion rings.
“It cannot continue to be business as usual. It cannot be that committees of parliament demand to be paid for them to write reports or look the other way,” Ruto stated.
At the same time, the Head of State directed his criticism towards the EACC, urging the agency to mount a tougher crackdown on corruption.
